Question regarding electronic journals and copyright Shearman, Christine 30 Oct 2007 18:16 UTC

Hello,

I manage subscriptions for the Fixed Income Division here at Fidelity
Investments. I serve about 200 users, manage about 150 titles, and of
those titles 87 of them have an online or electronic component.

Short of visiting each publisher's website and finding the copyright and
sharing policies, does anyone have any suggestions for researching
copyright policies? We do use a subscription vendor for most of our
titles; has anyone had success with having your vendor compile copyright
policies for all your electronic/online subscriptions?

Additionally, we are finding that requests for electronic subscriptions
are growing exponentially. The cost associated with ordering a new
subscription for each user becomes prohibitive. Obviously, we do not
want to violate any copyright laws, and would like to find a
cost-effective and legal way of sharing some of these journals.

I have looked at using copyright.com (the copyright clearance center);
does anyone have a license with them? Have you been pleased with their
services?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Christine Shearman
