best practices in organizing a remote storage library

Please excuse cross-posting of this inquiry to Oberlin's Technical
Services and Collection Development lists and SERIALS-ST.
We at Gettysburg College Musselman Library are looking for best
practices in organizing a remote storage library, especially the space
allocated to the bound periodicals. How do you organize your serials in
remote storage, by accession number, call number, or another method?
This past summer we weeded most but not all of the call number ranges of
serials in both our remote storage facility and our main library, with
the objectives of discarding journal runs with complete overlap in JSTOR
and relocating inactive or "dead" print runs. Currently, the 300+ titles
to be relocated are boxed (approx. 850 boxes) and grouped in a rough
call number sort.
We want to organize the remote storage library in the best way to
facilitate retrieval for patron requests and/or interlibrary loan
requests as well as further weeding and/or collection development
activities.
If you are willing to share your thoughts or experiences with a similar
collection or issues, please email the list or me at
