POSITION SUMMARY This position performs complex technical library tasks using specialized knowledge within the Washington State Library, Technical Services Program/Acquisitions Unit including: * Receiving and physically processing all serials including newspapers, microfilm, journals, periodicals and standing order continuations * Monitoring order fulfillment and claims and verifying fiscal receipt. Authorizing invoices for payment for all serials and resolves any problems, questions or discrepancies * Processing claims for all orders, monographic and serial, resolving any problems, questions or discrepancies with vendors and Acquisitions Ordering Specialist * Performing complex copy cataloging for serial bibliographic records including title changes, using the AACR2 rules and MARC standards including MARC21 Holdings data. Applies concepts of bibliographic control including description, seriality, successive entry, sources, levels of enumeration, chronology, etc * Maintaining accurate and reliable serial records correctly defining the serial holdings of the Washington State Library including predictive patterns, special notes, and public catalog display * Working with the Acquisitions Supervisor to plan and implement changes to serial procedures and technology REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * A Bachelor's degree which includes an equivalent to 30 quarter hours in library science; AND two years of full-time experience (40 hours per week or equivalent) in the functional operations of a library. One additional year of experience with duties equivalent to a library information technician my be substituted for the required credit hours; OR o An accredited associate degree in library technology AND three years of experience in the functional operations of a library; OR o Five years of full-time experience (40 hours per week or equivalent) in a library environment (i.e. circulation, reference, interlibrary loan, serials, media services, government publications or acquisitions) * One year of full-time (40 hours per week) or equivalent experience or training using a wide variety of standard office software products such as Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook), Windows Explorer and My Computer file utilities, as well as the willingness to learn and apply new technologies * Accuracy and attention to detail is critical to this position DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS * One year recent experience (within the last 5 years) working with serials management, serial record copy cataloging, and serial holdings maintenance * Experience using the Innovative Interfaces' Millennium software * Experience using the OCLC's Connexion software COMPENSATION $2547 - $3311 per month, depending on qualifications.
