New England Technical Services Librarians (NETSL) is proud to present
the following programs as part of the New England Library Association's
annual conference in Sturbridge, MA, October 14-16, 2007:

Monday, October 15, 2007: 1:00 - 2:30 PM

What's Going On at GPO? Technical Services for U.S. Government
Documents.

     Linda Resler from the U.S. Government Printing Office offers an
overview of technical services activities and new projects of the
Library Technical Information Services unit of the GPO. Focusing on
traditional activities and services related to ILS implementation and
the new FdSys project, the program is relevant for all libraries that
use U.S. government documents or would like to incorporate them into
their collections and reference services.

Tip Top Tech Training

     Libraries are constantly changing and adding software, upgrading
both software and hardware, and finding new applications for existing
programs. Teaching others to use these new additions is a perpetual
challenge. Dodie Gaudet from the Central MA Regional Library System
explains techniques and theories of training and incorporates audience
participation in exercises and discussion. Learn how to structure a
training session, prepare handouts, accommodate different learning
styles, select methods of presentation and create an atmosphere
conducive to learning. NETSL's annual business meeting and announcement
of the 2007/2008 Board are included.

The Way Ahead: A Report from the Library of Congress Working Group on
the Future of Bibliographic Control

     NETSL presents Robert Wolven, Director of Library Systems and
Bibliographic Control at Columbia University in New York City and a
member of the LC Working Group. He describes uses and users, structures
and standards, and economic and organizational factors that influence
the ways in which we provide access to library materials in the evolving
information and technology environment. When the recommendations are
complete and presented to Congress, what changes should we expect, and
how will they affect different constituencies?
