DESCRIPTION
This position reports to the Head of Technical Services and is
responsible for ordering and payment for monographs and serials,
including pre-order bibliographic searching, ordering, creating/
updating holdings, item and order records, processing invoices,
maintaining records, researching payment history problems and
maintaining the Library's administrative serials database. Works
closely with the Serials Acquisitions Assistant to monitor
subscriptions and ensure receipt of all issues. Also serves as the
primary contact with vendors (EBSCO, Harrassowitz, Swets) and
publishers. Works with serials vendors and the Harvard College
Library E-Resources Manager to ensure Harvard's access to online
subscriptions managed by the Ernst Mayr Library. Also responsible for
Library Information Technology (IT) support, including setup and
configuration, hardware and software recommendation, ordering,
installation and troubleshooting. Researches and resolves network and
communication problems, serving as a liaison regarding computer and
network issues between the library and the HU Library Office for
Information Systems, Organismic and Evolutionary Biology IT, Faculty
of Arts and Sciences IT and others.

REQUIREMENTS
BA or BS preferred. Four to five years of experience working in a
library technical services operation. Familiarity with management of
both print and online serials subscriptions. Strong experience with
an integrated library system such as Aleph. Basic familiarity with
MARC bibliographic and holdings formats and standards. Familiarity
with OCLC. Experience working with a major serials subscription
vendor. Familiarity and comfort with both Windows and MacOS. Basic
knowledge of principles behind local area networks. Ability to use a
variety of software programs and tools including but not limited to
Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, various email programs, HTML,
Microsoft Office applications and Filemaker. Demonstrated analytical
and organizational skills. Attention to detail and accuracy are
essential.
