Ebsco EJS Basic and usage statistics Monica Berger 24 Sep 2007 16:55 UTC

Revisiting and expanding on a thread on SERIALST this summer, I want to ask
about issues with Ebsco EJS Basic. I only recently reactivated our free
online titles from Ebsco in EJS in Serials Solutions. It seems that there is
often more content available directly through the link to the publisher's
website in Serials Solutions, so I activated both the EJS and the direct
links in Serials Solutions. Our customer service person at Ebsco suggested
that it was helpful to have both links activated because only through EJS
can we easily see our entire ejournal collection and users can get more
content by browsing.

We haven't cared too much about these free online titles but now we're
starting to pay for online-only or print/online licenses with up charges.
For those of you who are more experienced than me, it seems that there are
issues with usage statistics and EJS. I was reading an email from Taylor &
Francis that noted that statistics were not available for users linking into
their ejournals via EJS or any other third party platforms. I suspect other
publishers have the same policy. Statistics from EJS are only available via
EJS Enhanced which we do not subscribe to since our needs are still so
simple.

Any words of advice about EJS? Should we just totally unhook it from Serials
Solutions because of content differences and statistics issues?

Thanks, Monica
