>Duties & Responsibilities:
>This is a split position working 17.5 hours as a Serials Cataloger for the
>head of the HUL/CONSER office at 625 Massachusetts Avenue and 17.5 hours
>as a Cataloger for database maintenance under the direction of the Library
>Systems Manager in the Office of Information Systems, a department of the
>Harvard University Library at 90 Mt. Auburn Street, Cambridge. As Serials
>Cataloger position will perform original serial cataloging to CONSER
>standards in a variety of foreign languages and in all bibliographic
>formats; Create/edit associated holdings information following the MARC21
>Holdings Format and Harvard practices; Resolve problems of incorrect,
>incomplete, or conflicting bibliographic/holdings and authority data;
>Contribute to CONSER and NACO for name and series headings, as
>appropriate. As Cataloger, incumbent will analyze reports related to
>automated authority control and batch loading processes; Resolve heading
>problems and duplicate records in the database following national
>standards and local practice; Import, create, and update MARC authority
>records and bibliographic records; Train, revise, and oversee work of

>Qualifications/Education:
>Basic Qualifications: Masters in Library or Information Science w/ 2-3
>years of exp. cataloging in an academic or research library using
>automated systems required. Solid understanding of cataloging principles,
>rules and tools including AACR2/CONSER standards, LOC Rule
>Interpretations, Library of Congress Subject Headings and Classifications,
>knowledge of MARC21 formats required. Ability to work effectively in
>collaborative team environment; excellent organizational and interpersonal
>skills; flexibility and versatility required. Additional Qualifications:
>Working knowledge of multiple foreign languages and significant experience
>with integrated library systems and bibliographic utilities preferred.
