title:  Librarian I –Catalog Librarian (3,213 per month-Job Code
6NV324)
job Description:   The Catalog Librarian is responsible for supervising the
cataloging of materials in all formats for the Library. Work involves
in-depth knowledge of current cataloging procedures in the Voyager system
and OCLC, and includes both original and copy cataloging. Knowledge of
current library practices for cataloging and maintaining cataloging
standards is essential. Additional responsibilities include maintaining
department statistics, training of others, and providing leadership within
the cataloging section. Work also involves basic knowledge of current
electronic, computer, and other technological systems, including hardware
and software.

*ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:*

Reports to:  Assistant Director of Libraries for Collection Development and
Technical Services, Denton Campus.

Supervises: 2 cataloging library assistants and student assistants in the
cataloging section

*PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:*

May include, but not limited to the following:

Performs or supervises original and copy cataloging for materials in all
formats.

Performs database maintenance on an ongoing basis.

Reviews and updates links to electronic reference collections.

Contributes to the development of Library policies and procedures.

Creates and maintains appropriate work flow in the section.

Participates in the selection/hiring of Library Assistants and Student
Assistants.

Assists in the evaluation of Library services and resources.

Prepares reports as requested.

Participates in discussions, workshops, and meetings relating to Library
services.

Serves on Library and/or university committees as needed.

Performs additional job-related duties and responsibilities as requested.

*QUALIFICATIONS:*

*Education:*  Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited
institution, with at least one cataloging course.

*Experience:*

Preferred: Experience with OCLC, AACR2, USMARC formats, LC classification,
an integrated library system and statistical reporting.

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  *

Knowledge of the principles and practices of cataloging and classification.

Knowledge of automated library systems.

Knowledge of library related and other computer application programs.

Voyager experience helpful.

Experience with Catalogers Desktop.

Excellent oral and written skills.

Attention to detail.

Strong analytical skills.

Flexibility, willingness to adapt to changing priorities and projects.

Commitment to professional development and growth.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a congenial team
environment.
