The Oregon State University Libraries provides collections and services
that support and enhance the University's instructional, research, and
public services programs. The Libraries include a collection of over 1.7
million volumes and subscription to nearly 10,000 periodicals in print
and electronic formats. OSU librarians apply specialized knowledge of
information science and related materials to identify, acquire,
evaluate, organize and make available information to meet the needs of
OSU faculty and students.
The Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Specialist has
responsibility for management of the interlibrary borrowing and lending
activities and document delivery services to provide access to
information resources both to and from national and international
library. As a member of the Undergraduate Learning and Library
Information Access Department, this position manages the operations of
Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery (ILL) and the self-service
photocopy services in the library. This functional area is comprised of
classified staff and part-time student assistants and is responsible for
coordinating and monitoring the work of the Interlibrary Loan and
Document Delivery and self-service photocopy services. The person in
this position establishes service goals which support the library's
mission and works collaboratively with other public service departments
to attain them. Additionally, the position facilitates communication and
coordinates activities between ILL, photocopy services and other library
units; acts as liaison with other libraries, vendors and patrons;
provides staff supervision; and performs bibliographic searching.
Education:
Requires Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to the work assigned; or
an equivalent combination of education and experience. ALA accredited
MLS or equivalent preferred.
Work experience:
Minimum of two years supervisory experience of full-time staff,
including hiring, scheduling, and training; previous customer service
experience, preferably in a library setting. Experience in interlibrary
loan/document delivery within an automated library environment; a
working knowledge of both information technologies used in interlibrary
loan and current interlibrary loan practices, protocols and national
codes.
Other job-related skills and abilities:
Required: Effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills;
demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assign work, to plan
implement, evaluate and report on work activities, to work
collaboratively with individuals and small groups.
