About the Job
The Senior Data Specialist is responsible for the analysis,
implementation, testing and maintenance of CCC's bibliographic and
rights databases, assuring data conformity to CCC policies, procedures
and standards in support of ongoing bibliographic and metadata
excellence in CCC's products and services.
Primary Responsiblities:
* Advise CCC staff on bibliographic data representation and
interpretation. Monitor bibliographic database activity to ensure
adherence to CCC-specific standards and policies. Work with product
development teams on the design of applications, ensuring the accurate
representation of both CCC and non-CCC bibliographic and copyright data.
* Identify and recommend data, system, and application modifications,
additions, and enhancements. Play key role in ensuring CCC inventory
accuracy and adherence to current bibliographic standards.
* Oversee inventory related analysis and reporting for Data Systems &
Services management.
* Serve on cross-departmental project teams to design and implement
database system upgrades to ensure that applications are updated in
alignment with business needs. Develop communication and training plans
for system changes and enhancements.
* Monitor industry-wide developments in print and electronic
bibliographic and rights management, advising appropriate CCC staff on
implications for existing or planned products and services.
* Work directly with internal and external customers in support of CCC's
products and services, as assigned.
* Training and consultation to Data Systems & Services and other CCC
staff, as needed.
Skills / Abilities / Competencies Required:
* High level of familiarity and experience working with large, complex
bibliographic databases.
* Experience in the design, management, and support of customer-facing
technical and service-based solutions that utilize advanced metadata
information and standards.
* Strongly skilled in data analysis techniques and tools.
* Highly developed organizational, problem-solving, and critical
thinking skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, be
sensitive to deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
* PC skills, including MS office applications and familiarity with
complex databases and support applications.
* Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and other web design technologies.
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
* Ability to collaborate, influence, and negotiate across multiple
levels of the organization.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree and ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized foreign
equivalent required.
* Minimum of 3 years experience working in an academic or business
environment in a position with direct involvement with large,
highly-structured, bibliographic database systems and applications
required.
* Project management experience preferred.
* Experience with cataloging operations, including original cataloging
of print and electronic book and non-book materials preferred.
* Experience with managing electronic resources in a corporate or
academic library preferred.
