Journals in good condition (especially if they're current) can be offered
for sale.  Take a look at what's listed at
http://macfadden.mit.edu:9500/colserv/gifts/dealers.html.

If you want to take the trouble to package up individual issues for the
libraries that need them and send a bunch of separate packages, you can
reach hundreds of libraries around the country -- and in other countries --
by sending a message to <backserv@nalist1.swets.com>.  Or, if the
journals are medical-related, use <backmed@nalist1.swets.com>.

information.)  Tell them what you've got.  Word your message carefully --
if you want reimbursement for shipping, say so; if you want it in the form
of a check, specify that too (a lot of those libraries reimburse each other
with postage stamps!).  If you're not willing to ship overseas, say so in
your message.  I used to participate in this all the time, and it was a LOT
of work, but very satisfying to know that I was sending my unwanted
journals to places that really wanted them. SW
