DIRECTOR OF USER SERVICES AND OUTREACH
Gettysburg College Library invites applications for a service-oriented
librarian to head its newly formed Department of User Services and
Outreach. This position emerged as a top priority recommendation of the
Library's strategic planning initiative in early 2007

The Director of User Services and Outreach reports to the Library
Director and is part of the senior management team. The successful
candidate will provide vision and leadership in all areas related to
constituent service. This librarian oversees the library's circulation,
reserve, and document delivery programs and coordinates the activities
of 5.5 FTE staff members. S/he also manages a variety of collection
maintenance activities including inventory, weeding and long-range
planning for space allocation.
Outreach is at the core of this position. This librarian will work
closely with library work groups dedicated to exhibits and events, as
well as marketing. S/he leads librarians and other campus constituents
in understanding current issues and opportunities in scholarly
communication and copyright. The successful candidate is a polished
writer and confident speaker who enjoys interacting with our users. The
Director of User Services and Outreach works closely with the Reference
and Instruction Department in planning undergraduate programs and
services; this person will participate in reference desk rotations
during the academic year and may participate in information literacy
activities as time and interest allow.

Qualifications:
* ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science
and three or more years of relevant work experience
* Supervisory experience
* Experience in an academic library preferred
* Knowledge of library resources in a variety of current formats
* Understanding of scholarly communication patterns and needs of a
scholarly clientele
* Strong customer service orientation
* Ability to work flexibly and creatively in a demanding
environment
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational,
analytical, and problem-solving skills
* Excellent technical skills
