Title: Acquisitions Librarian
Location: Health Sciences & Human Services Library,
University of Maryland, Baltimore
Salary: $42,500 minimum
Position Announcement:
An excellent opportunity exists for a faculty librarian to manage the
ordering, receiving, processing, and maintenance activities for all
print monographs and print serials and collaborate with the digital
resources librarian to acquire all electronic resources. Reporting to
the head, Collections Management, this librarian collaborates with the
head, Collections Management, to oversee the collection budget of over
$2 million. This librarian trains staff in acquisitions tasks; oversees
the use of the consortial EDI system in Aleph, the library's integrated
library system (ILS); and is active in the acquisitions and serials work
of the university system consortium, as needed. The acquisitions
librarian manages the monographs approval plan process and facilitates
the RFP processes for monograph vendor, journal subscription agent, and
binding services. This librarian collaborates with other division
librarians, serves on committees and teams, and is active
professionally.
Qualifications:
Required:
MLS from an ALA-accredited library school with 3 years' experience in
acquisitions work at the professional or paraprofessional level; broad
knowledge of issues and trends in acquisitions management; experience
with automated acquisitions control subsystems and national
bibliographic utilities such as OCLC and MARC formats; experience with
collection budgets, with an ILS and bibliographic utility; experience
building positive faculty relationships with the library; and excellent
analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Knowledge of
issues relating to the transition from a print to a digital library
collection, demonstrated aptitude for detailed work, ability to work
effectively in library teams and projects, and ability to work in a
high-demand environment and effectively multitask.
Preferred:
Experience in an academic health sciences library, experience with Ex
Libris's Aleph 500 ILS, and involvement in professional activities.
