QUALIFICATIONS
POSITION: Curator of Digital Collections
RESPONSIBILITIES: The University at Albany Libraries are seeking an
enthusiastic, knowledgeable, creative librarian to serve as the Curator
of Digital Collections for the M.E. Grenander Department of Special
Collections and Archives. The Curator will: plan, implement, and oversee
the systems and processes required for the preservation of born-digital
and digital reformatted objects contained in archive and manuscripts
collections; lead and provide oversight for the continued design,
development, planning, implementation, testing, assessment and
maintenance of the Libraries' Digital Asset Management System (DAMS);
maintain the Department's Web site; arrange and describe manuscript
collections including the preparation and delivery of EAD finding aids;
supervise student staff working on arrangement and description projects;
provide reference services during assigned hours for Department's
collections, including some evenings; participate in the development and
implementation of Department policies and procedures. This position
reports to the Head of the M.E. Grenander Department of Special
Collections and Archives. Research, publication, and services to
Libraries, University, and profession are expected to satisfy criteria
for continuing appointment. Calendar-year obligation. A full

specific topic to all library personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS - Required: Master's degree in librarianship from an
ALA-US Department of Education accredited institution or internationally
recognized accrediting organization: knowledge of best practices and
standards for digital reformatting and preservation of born digital
collections, organization, storage, and retrieval of digital
collections; demonstrated ability to author and manage Web pages;
knowledge of archival description and metadata standards, including
DACS, EAD, LC authorities, MARC 21, and Dublin Core; demonstrated
ability to arrange, describe, and create finding aids; Excellent oral
and written communication skills. Applicants must be able to perform
physical activity associated with an archive work environments and must
address in their application their abilities to work with a culturally
diverse population. Preferred: Experience with: standards and
practices for storage and access to digital collections; reformatting
audio and moving image collections from analog to digital; supervising
students; working in a library or academic setting. Second master's
degree in history, public policy or related field.
