Subject: Position, Northern Virginia, George Mason University: Head,
     Serials and Periodicals/Microforms

George Mason University Libraries is seeking an energetic and
knowledgeable librarian for the position of Head, Serials and
Periodicals/Microforms.  Position manages the Serials and
Periodicals/Microforms unit of the Resources and Collection Management
Services Division.  Incumbent provides leadership for the selection,
acquisition, access, and maintenance of journals in electronic,
microform, and print formats.  Collaborates with collection development
and liaison librarians on all campuses for periodical and serial
collection development.  Manages the $2.5 million periodicals' budget
and provides budget allocations and analysis for fiscal year planning.
Designs and implements effective workflows incorporating current
technologies and standards.  Applies knowledge of scholarly publishing
initiatives and practices to daily workflows. Coordinates access
initiatives with VIVA, WRLC, and other regional groups.  Position
organizes, plans, and coordinates special projects, and communicates
activities and priorities to liaisons and colleagues. Directly manages
six full time classified staff.  Position reports to Director, Technical
Services.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS degree; or ALA-recognized
foreign equivalent; experience with serials management in an academic
environment; public service experience; successful organizational,
communication, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated effective
supervisory experience; strong service orientation and commitment to
profession; collegial, team-focused management orientation.  Preferred:
Experience working with subscription agents and with invoicing and
budgets; familiarity with relevant standards/protocols (e.g. EDI, EOD,
etc.); working experience with cataloging serials, and using Library of
Congress Classification system, MARC21 and OCLC; working knowledge of
the Voyager Endeavor system, specifically the acquisitions and serials
module.
