Re: Newspapers Crank, Richard L 07 Jun 2007 13:05 UTC

We use Voyager. Over the years, our library has cut newspaper
subscriptions significantly. We currently subscribe to around 20 print
newspapers, most of which we also receive in microfilm (at which time we
discard the print). We also subscribe to another 5 or 10 in microfilm
only.

For the print newspapers that we also receive in film, we check them in
w/out barcoding but do not maintain a holdings inventory; persons
consulting our opac see this note: Retained in newsprint until microfilm
arrives.

We do barcode the microfilm newspapers & maintain an accurate holdings
statement for them.

I would be very interested in knowing how you process newspapers at your
library. Do you check in. & if so, what system does your library use
(e.g.
SIRSI, etc.)

If you do NOT check in, how do you keep track of your holdings?
Anything else you care to share would be appreciated.
