Good Morning, Kathryn,
At Dowling College Library we check in and create item records for all newspapers. We also attach barcodes and insert tattle tape inside each one and shelve them in a special section in our Periodicals Room in Reference. Patrons may check them out for a period of three hours but they must remain in Reference. Retention policy varies depending on frequency of individual titles or usage; Some are kept for one to two years or a few months, others until microfilm arrives for that title. I hope this helps!

I would be very interested in knowing how you process newspapers at your
library. Do you check in. & if so, what system does your library use (e.g.
SIRSI, etc.)
If you do NOT check in, how do you keep track of your holdings? Anything
else you care to share would be appreciated.
