ELECTRONIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS: A Solution with Its Own Challenges

The IFLA Serials and Other Continuing Resources (SOCR) Section and the
University of Western Cape (UWC) invite you to participate in an exciting
experience hearing and discussing about Electronic Resource Management
systems (ERMs).

The Satellite Conference will take place Aug. 16-17, 2007 in Cape Town,
South Africa in conjunction with the Durban World Library & Information
Congress. The program will cover how ERMs are driving organization change,
what they may be evolving into, the challenges they present to the libraries
using them, and whether they can be at all useful to libraries who are just
developing their online presence.

The opening plenary session will cover the historical development of ERMs by
Kimberly Parker, a member of the original Digital Library Federation
Electronic Resource Management Initiative group that developed the framework
upon which all current ERMs are now constructed.

At this time, the registration form is "live" and final fees are set (with
significant reductions for registrants from Africa). Attendees will be
responsible for their own transport and accommodation during this event, and
the Web site offers many suggestions for your Cape Town stay, at different
price points.

We also welcome you to the Section meetings and program in Durban and a
strong program about Serials and Other Continuing Resources in Africa and
the developing world.
