Please join us for the ALCTS Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee Annual Update Forum on Monday, June 25, 2007, 1:30-3:30 pm, at the JW Marriott, Salon 2.
Our agenda will include the usual CC:DA liaison, CONSER and ISSN reports, followed by a panel discussion on the future of continuing resources cataloging and the need for change. Three panelists, Diane Boehr, Head of Cataloging at the National Library of Medicine; David Bade, Monographic Cataloger at the University of Chicago; and Helen Heinrich, Cataloging Coordinator at California State University, Northridge will participate in a conversation on a variety of topics. After a brief presentation on the following three topics by each panelist, questions from the audience and interaction among the panelists will be encouraged:
1. Do libraries need to change their cataloging/metadata practice to accommodate the needs of other communities in order to provide both title-level and article-level access? What might the implications of those changes be?
2. Should continuing resources cataloging standards change to accommodate greater use of non-library created data? What can libraries do to increase our flexibility and allow us to use vendor data in more effective ways?
3. What is the possible role of the CONSER Standard Record in cataloging standards evolution?
