/Assistant Director for Research and Instruction Services (Social
Sciences)/

Brandeis University Library and Technology Services offers a unique and
exciting opportunity for an innovative, energetic, and forward-thinking
professional to serve as a leader in a merged information services
organization, blending traditional library services with new
technologies and concepts in direct support of teaching, learning and
scholarship.

LTS is a nimble, mid-sized organization that emphasizes public service;
boasts robust collections and resourceful staff; encourages excellence,
initiative and innovation; and is engaged in a number of bold and
creative initiatives. These include the implementation of open source
learning management and digital asset management systems; continued
development of a full-service Information Commons; and deployment of
federated searching and electronic resource management systems.

The Assistant Director for Research and Instruction Services (Social
Sciences) provides leadership for and oversees a variety of traditional
and contemporary services offered in support of teaching, learning, and
scholarship, focusing
primarily on the Social Sciences. He or she manages a team of Research
and Instruction Librarians and Technology Specialists specializing in
these disciplines and coordinates closely with the Associate Director
for Research and Instruction
Services in strategic decision-making for the Research and Instruction
Services team as a whole. The Assistant Director for Research and
Instruction Services also provides leadership to the entire RIS group in
the coordination of instruction programs or the provision of research
assistance services.

Qualifications: A thorough understanding of teaching, learning, and
scholarship in the Social Sciences is necessary, as is supervisory
experience and evidence of strong leadership qualities. Demonstrated
experience and knowledge in the following areas are also required:
provision of traditional and online library resources; library
collection development; information, technology, and media literacy
programs; and support of instructional uses of technology. The
successful candidate will also show a demonstrated ability to work
effectively with faculty, students and staff; effective interpersonal,
verbal, and written skills; and a commitment to public service. A
Masters Degree in Library Science and advanced study in a relevant
subject area are strongly preferred. Experience in the following areas
will be helpful: instructional design, pedagogy, multimedia, and project
management.
