Yes, the "small annual maintenance fee" does look like a problem.

Open request to Chicago Journals: as long as we maintain any
subscription to any title, please do NOT charge us extra to access our
subscribed years to cancelled titles.

And this bothers me, too: "Effective immediately, subscribers and
post-cancellation subscribers may also opt to purchase a digital copy
for local storage and retrieval of any issues to which they subscribed
as an additional archival safeguard."

Do I understand correctly, that this stance indicates Chicago's desire
to have us pay twice for subscribed content, so that we may consider
that content under our ownership?
