Title:	Serials Catalog Librarian, Librarian I, LIB 288

Description: Reporting to the Manager of the Cataloging and Metadata
Services Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for original and
complex copy cataloging for serial publications in any format, and in a
variety of languages and subjects; serve as a resource person for the Team
and other areas of the Libraries; provide leadership in the development of
standards, policies, procedures, and workflows with particular
responsibility for serial publications; monitor trends and maintain currency
in emerging issues in bibliographic control of serials. The MSU Libraries is
a member of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging and CONSER as well as a
NACO participant. Under the guidance of the Libraries’ CONSER coordinator
and the Libraries’ NACO coordinators, the successful candidate will
contribute bibliographic records to CONSER and national authority records
for both names and series. The successful candidate will also participate
approximately quarter-time in a secondary assignment based on
qualifications, interests and need; may include work in reference or
collection development. Librarians participate in professional development
and research activities and serve on library and university committees as
elected or assigned. Other appropriate duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program;
sufficient reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages to catalog
items; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment; ability to
work effectively with diverse faculty, students, and staff; ability to work
independently and collaboratively; ability to prioritize and balance various
unit needs; attention to detail; preparation and commitment to conduct
independent scholarship consistent with a librarian appointment; capacity
and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional
development.
Desired: Familiarity with current and emerging cataloging standards and
practices, and metadata issues and applications.

Campus and Libraries:  Michigan State University Libraries serve more than
4,500 faculty, 34,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate and professional
students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres.  The Main Library and 8
branch libraries have combined holdings of over 4.8 million volumes.  East
Lansing is a community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing,
the state capital.

Compensation:  $46,000 minimum.  MSU provides generous fringe benefits.
