It would be one thing if they would have said, at the beginning of our subscription, this does not include the swimsuit edition, but we received no notice of that.

Yes, that occurred to me too.
A similar scenario has been has been known to happen with monographs
that unexpectedly became best sellers. Libraries had to wait to get
their discounted single copies while large shipments went to bookstores.
