  The Mississippi State University Libraries seek applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor/Serials Librarian. Reporting to the Coordinator of Serials, this position is a member of a team of information professionals committed to the development, implementation, and management of policies and procedures leading to the successful acquisition, access, preservation and fiscal control of serial resources in all formats.  DUTIES:  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:  Collaborates with the Coordinator of Serials in planning, setting goals and monitoring Serials Department workflows concerning the physical processing of print serials (including check-in, claiming, title maintenance and binding); solves complex problems that arise during the processing of serials resources; assists in managing the Serials Department staff’s creation and payment of serial orders and invoices within the Acquisitions module the Libraries’ Unicorn Workflows integrated library system; participates in the training of Serials Department staff; maintains ongoing contacts with publishers and vendors; assists in the authentication, activation and maintenance of access to e-serials; keeps abreast of current trends, standards and developments in the serials industry regarding vendor-developed services, resources, automated systems and publishing models; participates in appropriate collection development and outreach activities as a library liaison to one or more academic departments and meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.  REQUIRED:  MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Familiarity with the serials trade and with current tools and trends in serials access and management; high level of familiarity with computers and Windows NT; strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and written); ability to set and adjust priorities and workflow in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; ability to work independently as well as part of a team emphasizing a good balance between quality and productivity.  PREFERRED:  Knowledge of serials cataloging (print and electronic); experience using the Serials and Acquisitions modules of a Sirsi-Dynix integrated library system; experience using the Access Management and Electronic Resource Management Systems of the Serials Solutions knowledgebase; supervisory experience; additional Master’s degree or other advanced degree in a subject field.   RANK/SALARY/BENEFITS:   Assistant Professor (12 month appointment); $38,000 - $40,000 depending on qualifications and experience; excellent benefits package; faculty rank, privileges and responsibilities.
