Hello all,

Nominations for the CLA/3M Canada Award for Achievement in Technical
Services award are due in by February 28th.  If you are interested, or
know of another institution that may qualify, I encourage you to submit
a nomination package.

Here are the details:

Purpose
To recognize achievement in technical services in order to:

   * encourage innovation and excellence;
   * share new ideas or innovative approaches to technical services
problems with other libraries so that they can incorporate them or build
on them, as appropriate;
   * foster high morale in technical services units; and
   * raise the profile of technical services within individual
libraries and across the Canadian library community.

Eligibility
Any technical services unit whose library has an institutional
membership in CLA.

Guidelines
The unit which applies should have demonstrated achievement during the
past year in:

   * planning and implementing an ongoing program, services or special
project;
   * developing or utilizing new or improved methods, techniques, or
routines;
   * and identifying or implementing an innovative approach to solving
a problem or meeting a need in any aspect of technical services,
including: management, automation, security of the collection,
acquisitions, serials control, cataloguing, processing of library
materials, or the innovative design/layout of the Technical Services
area.

Applications
Applications should consist of a maximum of two pages. In the case of a
program, service, or special project, the document should include:

   * the name of the program/service/special project;
   * a statement of its purpose;
   * a description of the service/program/project;
   * information on how it was implemented, including the personnel,
cost, timelines involved, the results achieved, and contribution to the
library and library service.

In the case of developing or utilizing new or improved methods,
techniques, or routines, or implementing an innovative solution to a
problem, the document should include:

   * the nature of the problem or the desired goal;
   * a description of the methods, techniques, routines, or solution;
   * information on how it was implemented, including the personnel,
cost, and timelines involved; and
   * the results achieved and contribution to the library and library
service.

In addition, pictures, web sites, or other appropriate documentation
would be helpful. All applications must be signed by the applicant, the
head of technical services, or equivalent, and the chief executive
officer/chief librarian. Announcement of the award shall be made at the
annual general meeting of the Technical Services Interest Group at the
CLA Annual Conference, and in Feliciter. The winning library will
receive a cheque for $1000 and a certificate or plaque. Share your
achievements. Submit your applications, by February 28, annually to:
