Midwinter meeting announcement Jina Wakimoto 11 Dec 2006 23:26 UTC

Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the ALCTS Electronic Resources Interest Group
Meeting at ALA Midwinter in Seattle.

Date: Saturday, January 20, 2007, 10:30AM-12:30PM
Location: Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Spanish Ballroom

Title: Metadata Communities: What's in RDA for You?
Abstract: Metadata experts discuss the upcoming cataloging code Resource
Description and Access (RDA) and its relation to specific metadata
communities. How is RDA faring with these constituents? If RDA is attempting
to be "all things for all," can it accomplish this goal? There have been
many commentaries on the code revisions from "traditional cataloging"
groups, but how is it being received by the newer non-traditional
communities? Do they like it? Are they likely to use it? Little has been
recorded of their thinking about RDA and its potential to serve as a content
standard for a broader range of communities, and its relationship to other
standards as well as current metadata practices.

Speakers:
Murtha Baca, Getty Research Institute (CDWA Lite)
Sarah Shreeves, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (MODS)
Mary Woodley, California State University, Northridge (Dublin Core)
Barbara Tillett, Library of Congress, (Comments on RDA)

There will be ample time for questions and discussion. Please come
participate.
