ACRL/NY 2006 Symposium: Commercialization and the Academic Library:
Mission Statement or Market Share
When: Dec. 1, 2006, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Where: Baruch College, 151 East 25th Street, New York, NY

As the business model increasingly pervades the academy, librarians
find themselves responding to a mentality that embraces the "bottom
line." The 2006 ACRL/NY annual Symposium "Commercialization and the
Academic Library: Mission Statement or Market Share" explores the
commercialization of higher education, its impact on academic
librarians, and the challenges and opportunities they face.

This symposium presents compelling issues and answers for all academic
librarians and library administrators. Poster sessions illustrate
real-world responses as well.

Come and hear an exciting group of speakers address these timely and
important issues.

Speakers:
Rick Anderson, Director of Resource Acquisition at the University of
Nevada, Reno

Walt Crawford, Senior Analyst, OCLC RLG Service Center in Mountain
View, California

Jim Neal, Vice President, Information Services and University
Librarian, Columbia University

Grace ("Jinx") Roosevelt, Associate Professor of History and
Education,
Metropolitan College of New York
