Re: Open source ERM Kevin Stranack 18 Sep 2006 12:12 UTC

Hi Gary,

The Simon Fraser University Library has developed an open source ERM
tool called CUFTS. It was originally developed as a fulltext link
resolver knowledge base, but has since added ERM functionality. Right
now, CUFTS is being used by many libraries in western Canada and a
couple in Europe.

Currently, the ERM functions are fairly basic (descriptive fields, A-Z
electronic resource title list, etc.), but we are working on expanding
this significantly. Some of the planned enhancements include the
addition of many more detailed information fields (drawn from the DLF
guidelines), adding variable user permissions, generating a public A-Z
database list, and more.

You can find out more on the web site
(http://researcher.sfu.ca/index.php/cufts), and you can see the current
state of ERM by viewing the screencast.

If you'd like to get involved with the project, contact information is
available on the site, or you can reply to me directly.

Kevin

We are current considering the purchase of an ERM. One question that
has come up is whether there are any viable university-based open source
projects currently working on ERMs. If anyone is aware of any such
project, and whether a usable system is available, could you send me any
information you have, especially if you have a URL or contact
information. Many thanks!
