As the business model increasingly pervades the academy, librarians find
themselves responding to a mentality that embraces the "bottom line."
The 2006 ACRL/NY annual Symposium "Commercialization and the Academic
Library: Mission Statement or Market Share" explores the
commercialization of higher education, its impact on academic
librarians, and the challenges and opportunities they face.
ACRL/NY invites you to present a poster session at the Symposium that
addresses any issue related to this theme. This might be the
presentation of a research study, a practical problem solving effort, or
an innovative approach to addressing issues such as downsizing,
shrinking budgets, and changes in organizational missions that are an
outgrowth of the business model approach.
Please email a 100-200 word description of your proposed poster session
to Kris Wycisk at kwycisk@mercy.edu by October 27, 2006. Include author
name(s), email and telephone contact numbers, and the title of the
poster session. A limited number of poster proposals will be selected
for presentation, and presenters will receive a reduced Symposium
registration rate.
The Symposium will take place in New York City at Baruch College on
Friday, December 1, 2006.
