Instructor/Cataloger. Alabama A&M University, J.F. Drake Memorial LRC,
Cataloging Services. Under the general direction of the Head Cataloger, will
be responsible for copy and original cataloging of print and multi-media
resources in an OCLC/Horizon environment in accordance with academic goals,
library objectives, and strategic planning. This is a 12-month appointment
with faculty rank and status working 75% in Cataloging and 25% in Reference.
Required: MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program; cataloging experience
in an academic or research library; familiarity with use and application of
AACR2, MARC formats, Dewey Decimal Classification, authority control and LC
rule interpretations, LC subject headings; experience using a bibliographic
utility and integrated library system (preferably OCLC and Horizon). Must
have knowledge of electronic and traditional cataloging products, services,
rules, and resources; excellent oral, written, analytical and interpersonal
communication skills; ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a
team environment to enhance library programs and services. Must be
proficient with computer applications.
