In my library, we have been dutifully following the rules regarding
minor title changes versus major title changes. The serials staff
understands the rules and check in proceeds without any problems.
However, the students working in circulation sometimes have trouble with
shelving. For example, we subscribe to a journal that has the cover
title "Cost management", but that title represents a minor change from
"Journal of cost management". The title is cataloged as and should be
shelved as "Journal of ...", but it causes problems. Writing on the
cover is my choice of the last resort. Does anyone have any suggestions
for alerting the students of the proper location for such titles?
Thanks.
