We route library related titles to the librarians who wish to see them.
We check the issue in and our system then automatically checks it out.
We give 3 days per reader and the last person on the list is the
Periodicals clerk who then checks it back in before shelving it. I do
periodic checks to see how many issues have not been checked back in and
track down their location. Usually issues are returned within the month
from a list of 6 people.

We only route titles that are job related. We do not route the current
issue, leaving it available to patrons (when we receive the Aug issue we
will route July). We check it out on a department card for one week pre
person, and if its overdue I will come looking for it.

Subject: [SERIALST] Routing Periodicals
Does anyone have guidelines on routing periodical issues? Who can, who
can't? Time frame for reviewing? I'm finding that at our library
issues don't always find their way to the reading room resulting in
purchasing replacement copies. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Pam
