Electronic Resources Librarian
Milner Library at Illinois State University seeks applicants for this newly
created, non-tenure track faculty position. Under the general direction of
the Division Head for Bibliographic Services and working in coordination
with Acquisitions/Serials, Collection Development, and Systems, the
Electronic Resources Librarian participates in the ongoing design and
development of systems and procedures for managing the Librarys electronic
resources, including the implementation of an electronic resource management
system; updates and maintains linking capabilities for electronic resources
including link-resolving software; collaborates and works cooperatively with
public services staff to ensure successful access and use of electronic
resources; assists with vendor/publisher communication related to trials and
licensing; and assists with the collection and reporting of statistical data
related to electronic resources.
University and Library: As Illinois' oldest public university, Illinois
State University offers an outstanding education to 17,500 undergraduates in
37 disciplines, and 2,623 graduate students in diverse master's and doctoral
programs. Milner Library supports those programs with a service-focused
staff of 80, an institutional budget of nearly $8 million, and a collection
of over 1.6 million volumes. The electronic resource collection includes
over 150 databases and 20,000 electronic journals. The integrated library
system (Endeavor Voyager 6.1) and OpenURL link resolver (ExLibris SFX) in
use at the Library are hosted by CARLI (Consortium of Academic and Research
Libraries in Illinois). Illinois State is located in Normal, Illinois.
Qualifications:
* an ALA accredited graduate level degree by start date
* demonstrated knowledge of electronic resources
* excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as
a strong customer service orientation
* demonstrated ability to work independently and
collaboratively
Preferred:
* relevant experience in an academic or research library
* experience with technologies used to provide access to
databases and electronic resources
* knowledge and understanding of issues and practices related
to electronic resources
* demonstrated experience working with publishers and vendors
of electronic resources
* experience with Endeavor Voyager, an integrated library
system
* experience with web technology, and various report
generation and management software products
* experience with link resolving and metasearch software, e.g.
SFX/WebFeat
* demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
in a collaborative environment
* strong public service orientation and awareness of the
impact of electronic resource access and licensing on user needs
Salary and Benefits: $42,000 24 days vacation, 12 days sick, and 11 paid
