As the serials/reference librarian I take care f the
microfilm/reader/printers, though I do work with our Access department
too. We sort of share certain duties. They check the film in and then
I maintain it and our reference staff help the public use the machines
and the collection

At Seattle Pacific University Library Access Services also takes care of
the microform readers, since they are part of public service but also
because the one we have is so technical to use that it has been placed
in the Access Services area so that the staff can instruct and help the
patron.

Christine,

In the academic libraries I have worked in, it is the Periodicals
department that has the responsibility for housing and maintaining the
microform reader printers. The reasoning is that that is the department
that houses the microfilms, helps patrons with them, and is therefore more
familiar with the machines.

Our microfilm and microforms collections and the reader/printers are
kept in the serials department, which is responsible for maintenance.

Everyone,

I am curious about which department in your libraries are responsible
for the maintenance of your microform reader printers, and the reasoning

behind why that department has that duty. I am particularly interested
in academic libraries.

Thanks,

Christine
