Assistant Director of Acquisitions & Monograph Acquisitions Librarian

The Texas A&M University Libraries (TAMU) seek an innovative and
forward thinking librarian to provide leadership and a national
perspective for the Monograph Acquisitions Team in support of an
undergraduate and graduate student population of over 44,000 as well as
a teaching and research faculty of 7,000.

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Acquisitions & Monograph Acquisitions
Librarian, reporting to the Director of Acquisitions, is responsible for
planning, managing, and evaluating the one time purchase acquisitions
workflow, including coordination of the various approval plans
(including PromptCat profiles).  The position is responsible for the
online acquisitions system procedures for one time orders, as well as
participating in group decision making with Acquisitions Administrative
staff on acquisitions issues related to the materials budget of $11
million (including $3.2 million in monographic funds).  The position
works closely with approximately 40 Library Selectors, in addition to
the Cataloging Department, the Libraries' Business Office, Public
Services, and a wide variety of vendors and publishers of library
materials.  The position supervises at least 4 full time staff and
approximately 2.5 FTE student assistants.

The successful candidate will be expected to be professionally active
on the national level and to advise the Library Administration
concerning current information trends in acquisitions and collection
development, to maintain a research and publication record, and to be
active in appropriate professional organizations.

Qualifications:
Required:
A Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent and a
minimum of 2 years of post MLS professional experience in Technical
Services. Excellent oral and written communication skills; a commitment
to a collaborative, team environment; strong customer service within and
outside the libraries; and supervisory experience.

Preferred:
Collection Development experience; experience with Voyager or another
automated library system (ILS), Access, and Excel, or similar database
and spreadsheet programs.

Environment:
Texas A&M University Libraries is a member of ARL and is the
University's principal research and information center, providing 3.1
million volumes, 5.4 million microforms, 7,000 current print journal
subscriptions, 39,910 electronic journal subscriptions, 272,500
electronic books, and over 500 databases. There is a total staff of 251,
including 79 librarians with faculty status. Librarians work in a
sophisticated online environment utilizing Voyager and a full range of
automated information retrieval services.

Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University has an enrollment of over 44,000
students making it the fifth largest university in the nation. An
integral part of the twin cities of Bryan and College Station, the
University is situated less than two hours from Houston and Austin. The
campus is only a few hours drive from the attractions and sources of

Benefits & Salary:
  Salary is commensurate with experience, with a minimum starting
salary of $41,000.00.  Excellent benefits include choice of health plan

This is an academic, tenure-track appointment carrying full faculty
status and responsibilities including research and publication
requirements of the University.
