Mesa State College, in Grand Junction, Colorado, invites applications for the
position of Head of Technical Services Librarian. A full-time, administrative
appointment reporting to the Library Director, the individual filling this new
position provides leadership and oversight for the technical service departments
of Acquisitions, Cataloging, Periodicals, and Government Publications.

Establishes and upholds standards, policies, procedures, and priorities for the
operation of all departments within technical services. Coordinates the
procurement of all library resources. Directs the cataloging, processing and
maintenance of materials in all formats. Oversees collection development for
government publications. Participates in the library's reference and
departmental liaison activities, including some evening and weekend
responsibilities. Trains, supervises and evaluates three paraprofessional
positions.

Requires the following: A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA
accredited institution; minimum of three years supervisory experience in an
academic library; significant experience in technical services, including
acquisitions and cataloging; a working knowledge of AACR2, MARC formats,
bibliographic utilities such as OCLC, and an integrated library system (III
preferred); and experience with collection development and reference service.

Successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to plan, implement,
and assess projects, evidence of strong interpersonal skills as well as written
and oral communication skills, and a sound knowledge of issues and trends in
academic libraries, especially as they apply to technical services.
