Circulation figures or statistics Rubatino, Shelley 10 Apr 2006 23:45 UTC

Hello,

Below is a question from one of our librarians here at Seattle Pacific
University Library. Could anyone who is familiar with this issue please
respond?

Thank you,

To what in addition to the following should we turn for RELIABLE
circulation figures by title? This in support of a Psychology-Health
Sciences research project here that will be taking a look at the
coverage of mental illness in POPULAR religious periodicals like
Christian century and Christianity today. (Faculty want to focus first
on those titles with the highest rates of circulation.)

1. SRDS (Standard Rate and Data Service) periodicals.

2. The Statement of Ownership, Management, and Circulation required by
law (39USC3685) of all titles meeting "the standards for periodical
publication mail privileges": is there a single location where the most
recent of these filings can all be searched?

3. Some Association that (hopefully) keeps this data current (e.g.
American Society of Magazine Editors, Catholic Press Association,
Magazine Publishers of America, etc.)

4. Ulrich's periodicals directory: where does it get its figures, and
how accurate are they, really?

5. Magazines for libraries (another Bowker product) and such.

6. Writer's market (or perhaps something comparable for the religious
writer's market specifically?).

7. Literary Marketplace Online.

Any comments about any of these, or any further suggestions, would be
most welcome.

Thanks so much!
