Re: Print retained or discarded? Beth Burleigh 28 Apr 2006 18:30 UTC

Hi Carroll,
We have found that when we get rid of something particularly in the
Health Sciences area, something will happen to our electronic access.
Are you purchasing them as online only or are you also buying the print
that includes online? I always wonder how many years back the publsiher
will allow access and if they will pull something because they have that
power.
We now have to purchase back microfilm for JAMA because we made the
decision to stop the microfilm because we could have it online through
ProQuest. We still purchased the print but only kept current year. To
purchase the online version is so expensive and not an option for us. I
believe it comes down to if you university can afford everything in
electronic.
Not sure if this helps.
Bet

We are in the process of moving and space is at a premium. One
suggestion
has been to discard all print holdings of titles we now recieve
electronically. I would appreciate hearing how other libraries are
handling
their holdings, in particular Science/Engineering journals.

Thank you.
