Hello:

We are updating the 856 fields in our print records to reflect our
current print with free online access and full text access through
databases. Meanwhile, we have ordered the Serials Solutions MARC records
service and we are awaiting license approval and payment processing
through our University's Purchasing Department (this takes months).

The question is whether we need to update the 856 fields in the print
record, if we are purchasing e-journal records? When we load the
e-journals records, do we omit the 856 field from print record and use
the ejournal record as the sole source for links to the online full
text?

I am wondering how other libraries, who purchase MARC records, handle
this process. Please send feedback on or off list.
