I have received a message from our vendor that a publisher wishes to
institute tier pricing for 2007. They are gathering statistics
regarding our student FTE and the faculty FTE. The journal in question
is a print plus online publication and the vendor did not say if the
publication will be separated for 2007.
I understand that tier pricing is usual for databases, but I have not
run into it for titles (other than the difference between personal and
institutional subscriptions.) What do you think of this?
A probably irrelevant question also occurs: Why is the publisher not
gathering their own statistics? Our vendor doesn't consistently answer
our own needs so I also don't understand why they would take it on.
Comments welcome.
