300 claims on 455 titles? Good grief, that sound excessive.

We have appx. 455 print only subscriptions, 17K e-journals and 6755 e-books.
Ebsco handles almost all of our subscriptions except those that we have a
separate arrangement with or the publisher does not allow aggregator sales.
For example, Elsevier Science Direct is purchased under its on purchase
order/contract agreement. Proquest and Safari titles are purchased through
FEDLINK..

I would like to know the number of current periodicals in your collection
and purchased through EBSCO.

>From our senior cataloger who is responsible for claims:
"We generally have 300+ claims a month to FTP to Ebsco. Right now I spend at
least a day going through them. However, I want to talk to Dynix about
having Horizon automatically predicting the next claim after so many days,
rather than clicking them one by one myself. If we can do that, all I'd have
to do is generate the report.
We also have the claims over three report, which takes about half a day to
go through and then another half a day to make changes to the catalog
according to Audrey's responses. I'd say we receive most of our claims,
probably 90%. However, I don't have any stats on this.
If we didn't claim, then we'd never get any missing issues. I think that
would cause some complaint from our users. With the move towards
digitalization, our print numbers will start declining, and so the time
spent on claiming will also decrease. I see no advantage to NOT claiming."
We claim all missing journals since we pay for them. If we cannot get a
journal that has been claimed, the publisher extends our subscription
period.
Hope you find this information helpful.

We have not generated such a list, but we are about to stop checking in
titles with limited retention as well as most titles replaced in MF (if
they are also available online). We hope this will cut down on
unnecessary claim generation.
Would you please summarize for the list? Thanks.

Subject: [SERIALST] FW: core claiming and/or serial special lists
I am interested in hearing from libraries that have a list of core
titles that they claim and/or serial special. What criteria did you use
in generating these lists? Who participated in the decision? How much
time do you think (know) it is saving - any figures on number of
unfilled claims/serial specials before using the lists and after? How
much FTE you are saving? Any information in this area would be
appreciated.
A quick literature search did not yield much.
Thank you.
