Position:  Monographic Cataloger/E-Resources Analyst
               Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian rank

Responsibilities: The University at Albany Libraries seek a creative,
knowledgeable, individual committed to service to academic library users
to join the faculty of the Libraries' Cataloging Services Department.
The successful candidate will catalog and classify English and other
Western European language monographs, edit OCLC or RLIN member copy,
perform original cataloging, including all appropriate authority work,
investigate and participate in implementation of solutions for providing
bibliographic control for all types of electronic resources, monitor
publisher packages of electronic resources for changes in content,
compile and provide analysis of usage statistics, supervise
professionals, interns and/or students, participate in the development
of policies and procedures for the Division of Library Systems and
Technical Services  and the University Libraries, engage in research,
publication and service to the Libraries, the University and the
profession (as expected to satisfy criteria for continuing appointment
and promotion); and will perform additional duties including serving as
liaison to Library Systems and advisor to the divisional website team.
Reports to the Assistant Director, Division of Library Systems and
Technical Services and serves on the Cataloging Working Team.

Qualifications: required: An MLS/MSIS from an ALA-accredited institution
or international equivalent.  By time of appointment, a minimum of one
year relevant professional cataloging experience in a mid to large
academic or research library, including experience cataloging electronic
resources. Demonstrated knowledge of issues and challenges related to
cataloging in relation to public user interfaces. Ability to catalog
materials in at least one language other than English. Knowledge of the
use and application of cataloging tools, including AACR2 revised, LCSH,
LC classification, MARC21 formats and metadata standards, and LC Rule
Interpretations. Experience with online computer library systems, such
as the OCLC cataloging utility Connexion, integrated library systems
(e.g., ALEPH 500), Internet applications, and office applications.
Evidence of highly effective communication skills in both written and
oral English, strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and
problem solving skills. Applicants must address in their applications
their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.
Preferred: Experience working in a collaborative, group management
environment. Experience working with the Ex Libris products SFX and
ALEPH 500; web authoring skills; hardware and software skills.  All
finalists will be asked to submit official transcripts and to present on
a specific topic to all library personnel.

TERMS & BENEFITS - Calendar-year appointment and tenure-track position;
sick leave and annual leave at 1.25 days each per month; health

York State Teachers Retirement available (employee contribution rate
3%).
