Update: Credit Mediators, Inc. not a scam after all
Rick Anderson 30 Mar 2006 23:45 UTC
To anyone else who has received fake-looking "collection notices" from
Credit Mediators, Inc.:
I heard back from Thomson Scientific this morning, and it turns out that
they actually do use CMI as a collections service for old, low-dollar
invoices. (The particular notice they sent us was due to a clerical
error on Thomson's part, but obviously that wasn't CMI's fault.)
So although the collection notice looked for all the world like a scam
(since it cited no invoice number or product name and offered no
evidence that CMI was really an authorized agent of Thomson), it was
not. Apologies for any stress I may have caused.
