publisher history information

Diane Paldan asked about sources outside catalog records for publisher
history (see thread "Cataloging Question"]. If one has access to print
volumes of EBSCO's Serials Directory or Ulrich's International
Periodicals Directory, one could look year by year for the info. If
publishers changed more than once a year for a title I guess that only
one change would be recorded.
It would be a nice feature of the two directories to include publisher
histories, but apparently they do not. It's easy to see why for print,
but perhaps it would be feasible for the online versions.
Anyone from EBSCO or Bowker want to weigh in on this?
