Serials list:
The auditors do visit us here at Boise State, every 2-3 years, and they do
go to the shelves pull items, and then ask us to pull the invoice (or
related information, such as gift), and they do go to the files, pull
invoices and require us to give information regarding individual purchase
orders.
If you bind your volumes, as we do, it is much easier to track down a
missing volume at the time of publication, rather than trying to do that a
year or two down the road when your bindery clerk discovers that the issue
is missing.
These are all part of the many decisions that staff must make at each
library, and there isn't a one fits all answer....

Just a quick note for the record: as a matter of fact, the University of
Nevada, Reno Libraries were audited this past year. The auditors showed
no interest at all in our check-in procedures (or lack thereof).
Thanks to all those who have responded to my query of last week. I hope
to have a summary compiled for the list by the end of this week.
