POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
CATALOG LIBRARIAN

Washington University Libraries in St. Louis, MO seek a detail-oriented
and innovative librarian to serve as Catalog Librarian.  In addition to
general cataloging responsibilities, this position has primary
responsibility for cataloging print and electronic serials, providing
access to electronic resources, and assisting in catalog maintenance.
This position reports to the Database Management Supervisor / Innopac
Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  General Cataloging Duties (40%) include performing
original and complex adaptive cataloging in a variety of formats, subject
areas, and languages according to AACR2rev, OCLC and LC standards and
using the Innovative Interfaces integrated library system and OCLC;
participating in the NACO and OCLC Enhance programs; formulating
cataloging policies and procedures; keeping current on developments in
cataloging and related professional matters through attendance at
professional meetings and reading professional literature.
Special Areas of Responsibility include performing original and complex
adaptive cataloging of print and electronic serials and providing access
to electronic resources (35%) and assisting in maintaining the online
catalog (25%).

QUALIFICATIONS:  MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; academic
library cataloging experience with AACR2rev, LCSH, and LC classification,
and knowledge of MARC formats and NACO standards desirable; experience
with cataloging electronic serials highly desirable; experience with an
online bibliographic utility and an integrated library system desirable;
experience with online authority control desirable; ability to work with
foreign languages; ability to analyze problems and determine solutions;
ability to multi-task; an understanding of the information needs of a
research university; ability to work effectively in a collegial manner in
a changing environment.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  The University:  Washington University in
St. Louis, located at the western edge of the City of St. Louis, is a
medium sized, independent university founded in 1853, internationally

The Libraries:  Washington University Libraries include the John M.
Olin Library and 13 school and departmental libraries.  This position is
located in newly renovated space at the West Campus Library located one
mile from the main campus.  The Libraries support learning, teaching,
research, and creative expression with a collection of 3.5 million books,
periodical volumes, and government publications, and access to over 18,000
serial titles.  The Washington University Libraries is a member of the
Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, the
Greater Western Library Alliance, and MOBIUS (a consortium of academic
libraries with member colleges and universities in the state of Missouri)

SALARY, BENEFITS, AND APPLICATION:  Salary Range:  $33,000 to
$38,000; an excellent benefits package includes TIAA-CREF, 22 vacation
