Collections Conservator/Instructional Support Associate, SL-2

RESPONSIBILTIIES:  Reporting to the Preservation Librarian, the
Collections Conservator is responsible for conservation, repair and
enclosure construction for the University Libraries' circulating and
non-circulating materials in the general and special collection; works
in close collaboration with staff across the Libraries to evaluate
collection and item level needs and recommends treatment; assists with
the development of emergency planning for the Libraries;  evaluates and
implements new technologies related to the preservation and reformatting
of library materials; and, provides staff training. As the Department's
student staff supervisor, establishes specifications and procedures for
work performed and workflow patterns, and ensures quality of completed
work.  Finalists will be asked to submit official transcripts and will
demonstrate communications skills and knowledge of trends in
preservation through a presentation to library faculty, staff, and other
members of the University community.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required - Baccalaureate degree. Supervisory experience.
Relevant experience and training. Knowledge of: preservation issues in
research libraries; book repair, rebinding, and paper conservation
procedures; technical concepts and practices related to the
deterioration, preservation, and reformatting of library holdings;
emergency preparedness and response; and collection survey
methodologies.  Demonstrated ability and experience with book repair,
flat paper repair, enclosure construction, and reformatting.  Working
knowledge of Windows applications and web-page software. Strong service
orientation. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work
with a culturally diverse population.  Preferred:  Experience with
technical processing in a large library environment, and conducting
workshops.
