Library Associates seeks an experienced Library Technician for the
position of Serials Processing Assistant.  This is a one-year contract
position in a governmental agency in Washington, D.C.  The rate is
$15.00 per hour.

primary responsibilities

:   Open and sort mail into indexed and non-indexed journals for
processing by Serials Records (SR) staff;
:   Open and sort non-journal mail, such as invoices, catalogs, and
correspondence;
:   Send selected issues to other sections within the library;
:   Perform quality assurance of piece labels on items processed by SR
staff
:   Perform quality assurance of labeling for items being sent to
Indexing section;
:   Print labels for duplicate issues and discard titles not within the
library's collections;
:   Print spine labels for hard-cover items;
:   Order missing items from backorder vendors;
:   Print piece and spine labels for videos and selected items in
Cataloging Section.

qualifications

:   Prior experience in a library is strongly desired;
:   Prior experience in serials is desired;
:   Ability to learn quickly is mandatory;
:   Basic experience with Voyager library software is desired;
:   Prior work experience at the National Library of Medicine is
strongly preferred.
