Re: And yet another JSTOR question... Kris Gerhard 15 Dec 2005 00:15 UTC

We keep the print issues/volumes unbound, because we know we'll be discarding them. Some of these are titles housed in our Periodicals Room (only has most current issues of selected serials) and some are housed in pam boxes in our stacks. So far, no reports of missing issues or other problems with unbound issues getting lost. I'm sure it happens from time to time, but two years in, so far so good. We decided that if we were investing in JSTOR (capital costs), we shouldn't spend money on binding the interim current print volumes.

Our institution will be weeding the paper backfiles of JSTOR titles. Since
many of these titles have substantial moving walls (more than a few years)
can those of you who are doing the same share with me what you are doing
with the issues that are not yet covered in JSTOR? Are you leaving them on
the current shelves, boxing, binding, or some original idea outside the
three noted?

I realize this discussion may soon be irrelevant as more and more of the
current JSTOR titles are published electronically, but in the meantime I am
charged with figuring out a way to handle what could be lots of loose issues.

Thanks for any suggestions.
