Pat,
We make these free journals available in our catalog using our ERM
system - if there is no matching record in the catalog a brief bib is
created and cataloging then brings in a full bib. We also have them in
our ejournal list. We made the decision to do some blanket loading to
save collections librarians the time in reviewing each journal and
making an individual decision for ejournals at these sites: DOAJ,
Scielo, JSTAGE, EMIS, BioMedCentral and PubMedCentral. We also add
things one at a time as librarians identify titles they would like in
the catalog outside these collections.

Subject: [SERIALST] Free serials not linked to print subscription

Hi everyone,

I know this is a perpetual question, so I apologize in advance if this
has come up on the list recently. I couldn't bring up any relevant
threads in the archives.

We are reviewing our policy for adding free resources to our collection
and making them accessible through lists, the catalog or other means.
One category we're reviewing are free magazines or journals that are not
associated with a print subscription. The content of these resources
will be evaluated just as we evaluate other resources, but we are
interested in how other libraries make these sites available if it is
determined that the content justifies adding the journal to the
collection.

In this case, do you add it to an alphabetical or subject journal list,
do you catalog it, or do you make it available some other way? Any
suggestions you can give us would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Pat
